Roommate Diaries Please!

When I was 19 years old I moved out of my mom’s house and as many a late teen will do, took my hundred-slot cassette rack and bolted off to college with a wondrous excitement my gut. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this would be the start of a nearly uninterrupted 2 decade marathon of apartment cohabitation. For better or for worse, I’ve come through the other side and have now started a living arrangement with a woman who will very soon be my wife. Hooray!

Looking back however I realize how much time I spent grappling with the finer points of roommate living and what it has taught me about myself, not to mention about soiled laundry, dirty dishes, other people’s atrocious sleeping patterns as well their utter disdain for financial solvency and how it has driven me to create this site. It is an act of catharsis, so to speak. A purging of demons that even to this day, haunt me to my bones.

Being the generous human being that I am, I am opening up the floor to you, Johnny and Johanna Public, so that you can also free yourselves, because  you’ve been there and you just can’t keep it inside any longer. It is tearing you apart.

Here is your opportunity to finally get it off your chest. To free yourself of what it is that’s festering inside you, those fond memories of his 3 day video game marathon, the exploding blender story, the rampaging ferret, the upstairs/downstairs romance gone awry and the good old dirty socks in the sink trick.

Feel free to send in your stories, ruminations, one-liners, stonewallings, diatribes and raves and they’ll be posted in the manner in which they arrive. Please change the names to protect the guilty. And please please hold your landlord rants for forums more appropriate. Photography and video is good too, but make sure no one can be hurt, ostracized or sued because of it. The idea is to entertain, not destroy. Roommate Diaries retains the right to have the last word about what is just too awful for public consumption.

Thanks, and happy storytelling! Looking forward to hearing from you.
